Melk - Benedictine Abbey

May 2014, I accompanied two of my best friends travelling to central Europe. Herewith I share the first among the series of exciting places that we visited together.

Austria is not just Vienna and Salzburg; even though both are very famous especially because of classical musics. If you ever have a chance to visit Austria, I would suggest to spend time at least 1 day to visit Wachau region in the bank of Danube River.
When I had another chance in May 2014 to visit Austria of course the first agenda on my itinerary was a trip to Wachau region, I joined one day tour organized via the hotel and managed to visit Spitz and Melk. The tour starts with a bus, and then transfer to a boat at Spitz. The boat will bring you from Spitz to Melk along the Danube River.

Melk is located at the Wachau valley at the bank of Danube River. The scenery around the city is amazing, clear air, green nature and quiet.
Melk is largely popular because of the Benedictine Abbey (founded in 1089 AD) typical Baroque art building, is located on a 200 feet (61 m) high cliff.  The monastic library located inside the Abbey soon became renowned for its extensive manuscript collection.

Fortunately I came here after the Abbey was re-opened after long renovation, so I managed to visit the church, museum and the library too, but taking photo is not allowed in the library. The camera's light will damage the old manuscripts and books/ With special permission the book can be borrowed for read inside, bringing outside is forbidden. Understandable since most of the books were dated from hundreds of years ago.

Hope you are feeling inspired with the above sharing. I'll be back soon with other notes from my travel experiences.

Thank you for visiting my Notes.

Note: As I always believe pictures say more than hundreds of words.
